Overview

The DC486B demonstration circuit is a dual Smart Battery PowerPath and charger controller based on the LTC1760. It operates with an input voltage range of 12V to 20V and is optimized for 2, 3, and 4-cell Li-ion battery packs. The system follows Smart Battery System Manager (SBSM) standards, where PowerPath selection is automatically controlled by the LTC1760. The charger output is programmed via an SMBus serial interface with a maximum charge current of 4A. Features include a standalone mode with LED status indicators, adjustable trip points for low battery voltage, an input current limit of 3.57A, and short-circuit protection.

Use Cases

  • Smart battery management systems
  • Multi-cell Li-ion charging applications
