Overview

Demonstration circuit 1265 showcases the LTC3220 and LTC3220-1, which are high-efficiency 360mA universal 18-channel LED drivers. The board is populated with twelve white LEDs and two RGB LEDs. The LTC3220 utilizes a low-noise charge pump with automatic mode switching (1x, 1.5x, and 2x) to maintain efficiency across various LED dropout voltages. All functions, including 64-step intensity dimming, blinking, gradation, and software shutdown, are managed via an I2C serial interface. The design requires only five small ceramic capacitors to form a complete LED power supply and current controller, operating from an input range of 2.9V to 5.5V.

Use Cases

  • Handheld device backlighting
  • Portable electronics displays
  • RGB color lighting effects
  • Multi-channel status indicators
  • General purpose LED current regulation
