UBA20260
NXP Semiconductors
A 20 W application where the UBA20260 is used with external MOSFETs.
Design guide for dimmable CFLs using the UBA2026X family. Covers 120V/230V mains, power factor correction, and integrated or external MOSFET configurations.
This application note describes the design of dimmable Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) with low dimming levels using the NXP UBA2026X controller family. It covers the UBA20260 for applications up to 20W using external MOSFETs and the UBA20261/2 for applications up to 18W with integrated MOSFETs. The design incorporates a Voltage Source Charge Pump (VSCP) to ensure a power factor greater than 0.6 across all dimming levels. Technical details include resonant tank parameter calculations for both 120V and 230V AC mains, autotransformer configurations to improve efficiency by reducing MOSFET current, and inductive mode preheating strategies to extend lamp life.
