Overview

This design document provides technical instructions for implementing the Matter connectivity standard on the NXP i.MX 8M Mini processor. It details two hardware configurations for a Matter controller and OpenThread Border Router (OTBR): one combining the i.MX 8M Mini with the 88W8987 WiFi-BT module and K32W061 Thread RCP, and a second using the IW612 tri-radio single-chip module. The document covers hardware requirements, environmental setup using Ubuntu and Yocto Project, building OTBR binaries, and deploying Matter applications. Additionally, it outlines commissioning and control procedures using the chip-tool utility to manage Thread nodes in a smart home ecosystem.

Use Cases

  • Smart home gateway development
  • Matter controller implementation
  • OpenThread Border Router design
