Overview

This technical document describes the hardware interface between the MC68360 Quad Integrated Communications Controller (QUICC) and the MC68160 Enhanced Ethernet Serial Transceiver (EEST). It outlines how to configure the MC68360 Serial Communication Controllers (SCC) for Ethernet mode and provides specific pin mapping for transmit/receive data, clocks, and control signals including TENA, RENA, and CLSN. The design emphasizes a glueless connection requiring no external logic. Performance considerations are included, noting that at 25MHz the MC68360 supports up to two simultaneous Ethernet channels, while at 33MHz it supports up to three.

Use Cases

  • Implementing Ethernet connectivity in MC68360-based embedded systems
  • Designing physical layer interfaces for QUICC communications controllers
  • Hardware integration of Ethernet transceivers with SCC ports
  • Multi-channel Ethernet hardware configuration
