LTC4080 Demonstration Circuit 920 Design Document
Quick start guide for DC920, featuring the LTC4080 Li-Ion battery charger with an integrated 300mA synchronous buck regulator and adjustable output voltages.
Overview
Demonstration circuit 920 (DC920) is a design evaluation platform for the LTC4080, a stand-alone single-cell Li-Ion battery charger and a 2.25MHz, 300mA synchronous buck switching regulator. The charger uses a constant-current/constant-voltage algorithm with a 4.5-hour timer termination, providing a fixed 4.2V float voltage and a programmed charge current of 500mA. The integrated buck regulator is powered directly from the battery and features jumper-selectable output voltages of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, and 2.5V. The circuit includes status LEDs for power and charge states, as well as support for Burst Mode operation to optimize efficiency during light load conditions.
Use Cases
- Evaluation of LTC4080 charger and regulator performance
- Single-cell Lithium-Ion battery charging applications
- Power conversion for portable battery-powered electronics
- Prototyping compact buck regulation with integrated charging
