Overview

This document provides technical guidance for transitioning from the NXP EdgeLock SE050F to the SE052F secure element. It highlights key differences in hardware integration, including package size changes (3x3mm HX2QFN20 to 4x4mm HVQFN20) and pinout modifications such as the transition from an ENA pin to a dedicated RST_N pin. The note details IoT applet enhancements including SEMS Lite for secure updates, FIPS 140-3 certification, and expanded cryptographic support for ECDH, RSA 4k, and AES CCM/GCM. It also specifies requirements for the EdgeLock SE05x Plug & Trust middleware (version 04.05.xx or later) and provides compatibility information for NXP host controllers including i.MX RT1060, i.MX RT1170, and Kinetis K64F.

Use Cases

  • Upgrading existing IoT security hardware to newer standards
  • Implementing FIPS 140-3 compliant secure credential storage
  • Migrating embedded security designs to support applet updates via SEMS Lite
  • Integrating secure elements with i.MX and Kinetis host microcontrollers
