Overview

This design document details a power management solution for smart home hubs using the MAX77756. The hub requires efficient operation from both a 12V wall adapter and a 6V backup battery. The MAX77756 integrates a 500mA synchronous step-down converter with a dual-input power multiplexer (MUX) into a compact 2.33mm x 1.42mm WLP package. By utilizing low RDS-ON MOSFETs instead of traditional diodes for power switching, the solution achieves 87% peak efficiency and reduces the total application footprint to 33mm2. The device supports an input range of 3V to 24V with output voltages adjustable via resistors or I2C interface.

Use Cases

  • Smart home hubs
  • Wireless door locks and thermostats
  • Battery-backed IoT devices
  • Small form-factor household appliances
