Overview

This application note describes the implementation and provisioning of the OPTIGA Trust Charge security solution within wireless charging (WLC) transmitter systems. It details how the OPTIGA Trust Charge facilitates Qi 1.3.x authentication, which is required for Extended Power Profile (EPP) power delivery exceeding 5W. The document outlines system architectures using WLC1115 and WLC1150 controllers connected via I2C, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) requirements, and the use of X.509 v3 certificates with ECDSA NIST P-256 and SHA-256 algorithms. It further provides a step-by-step workflow for manufacturers to obtain WPC-compliant certificate chains and register Qi-IDs through Infineon’s Manufacturer Certificate Service Provider (MCSP).

Use Cases

  • Qi-certified wireless charging pad manufacturing
  • Secure identity authentication for EPP wireless transmitters
  • Automotive wireless charging systems
  • Provisioning security certificates for WLC reference designs
