Overview

The DC787A demonstration circuit showcases the LTC4252C-1 and LTC4252C-2 Hot Swap controllers designed for -48V AdvancedTCA (ATCA) systems. The DC787A-A version utilizes the LTC4252C-1 which features latch-off after a fault, while the DC787A-B uses the LTC4252C-2 with auto-retry functionality. The design incorporates connection sense circuitry, zero-volt transient reservoir capacitor management, and opto-isolators to drive 48V bricks. It features a thermal layout for ORing diodes that eliminates the need for heat sinks under standard loads. The board supports a nominal 48V input with a 100V maximum rating and provides a minimum output current of 5.6A. Key safety and monitoring features include undervoltage lockout, overvoltage protection, input and return fuses, and LED indicators for voltage presence and power-good status.

Use Cases

  • AdvancedTCA (ATCA) blade power management
  • -48V distributed power systems
  • Telecommunications infrastructure
  • High-availability server power distribution
