Overview

The USB-ML-PPCNEXUS is a high-speed USB 2.0 hardware interface designed by P&E Microcomputer Systems for NXP (Freescale) PowerPC MPC55xx processors. It serves as the bridge between a PC's USB port and the standard 14-pin JTAG/Nexus debug connector on the target hardware. The device supports target processor supplies ranging from 1.8V to 5.25V and features dual LED indicators for power status and target detection. It enables full control over the processor, including halting execution, reading/writing registers, debugging code, and programming internal or external flash memory. The interface is compatible with various software suites such as ICDPPCNEXUS for debugging and PROGPPCNEXUS for automated flash programming.

Use Cases

  • Source-level debugging of NXP MPC55xx microcontrollers.
  • Interactive or automated flash programming for production and development.
  • Direct hardware control and register access for embedded systems development.
  • Custom application development using DLL-based interface libraries.
