Power conditioner IC supports intrinsically safe industrial Ethernet APL field-device ports in hazardous environments. The device operates from a 6 V to 36 V input and limits fault power to less than 650 mW when line voltage is 18.5 V or lower. It provides current limiting up to 55 mA for APL Class A devices and shunt regulation to maintain the 500 mW minimum APL load power condition. Polarity-insensitive line-voltage sensing and an integrated current-sense resistor reduce external circuitry. The 8-lead narrow SOIC package with exposed pad is specified over a −55 °C to 150 °C junction temperature range.
