Overview

The EVAL-LT8440-AZ evaluation circuit demonstrates the LT8440 power conditioner's performance in a load power port of an intrinsically safe field device. It is designed to regulate and limit power consumption according to Ethernet Advanced Physical Layer (Ethernet-APL) standards. To meet the Ex ia triple redundancy requirement for Class A field devices, the board incorporates three LT8440s in series. It operates from a 9V to 17.5V input range, ensuring a minimum of 500mW load power while limiting total input power below 650mW. The design includes input protection components, common-mode and differential-mode filters, and a diode bridge for polarity insensitivity, all compliant with IEC60079-11 and IEC60079-47 standards while maintaining 10BASE-T1L signal integrity.
