The MAX31856 is a highly integrated thermocouple-to-digital converter that performs cold-junction compensation and digitizes the signal from any type of thermocouple. It includes a 19-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and provides automatic linearization correction for eight thermocouple types (K, J, N, R, S, T, E, and B). The device offers a high-resolution output formatted in degrees Celsius with temperature resolution as fine as 0.0078125°C. It features a ±0.15% maximum full-scale measurement error and protects the thermocouple inputs from overvoltage conditions up to ±45V. Communication with the device is handled through a standard SPI-compatible interface.
