Overview

This user guide (UG-002) describes the hardware and software for the AD9551 Revision D evaluation board. The board provides a platform to evaluate the AD9551 multiservice clock generator, which utilizes a fractional-N PLL to translate reference frequencies to desired output frequencies. Key features include USB-powered operation with on-board LDO regulators, AC-coupled differential LVPECL SMA connectors, and an on-board PLL loop filter. The document details two programming methods: an SPI port via a Windows-based graphical user interface or manual operation using dip switches. It also explains reference conditioning, switchover circuitry for redundancy, and holdover operation using an external crystal and internal DCXO.

Use Cases

  • Clock frequency synthesis and translation
  • Evaluating PLL lock and phase perturbation performance
  • Prototyping network synchronization systems
  • Testing reference clock redundancy and switchover
  • Manual and software-based clock configuration
