The integrated processor combines a CPU32 M68000-compatible 32-bit core with a two-channel DMA controller and on-chip peripheral subsystems. It provides a 32-bit address space, a 16-bit external data bus, dynamic bus sizing, chip-select logic, interrupt handling, timers, serial interfaces, and IEEE 1149.1 boundary scan. The DMA controller supports single- or dual-address transfers with 8-, 16-, and 32-bit data sizes. The serial module provides two synchronous/asynchronous channels with modem-control support and MC68681/MC2681 compatibility. Standard MC68340 variants operate from a 5 V supply at up to 25 MHz, while the related MC68340V low-voltage family supports 3.3 V operation.
