Reference design for a 3.5W offline DCM flyback converter using the MAX17595 controller, delivering 3.3V at 1.06A from a 176V to 284V AC input range.
This design document details the MAXREFDES1182, an offline flyback converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). The design utilizes the Analog Devices MAX17595 peak-current-mode controller to convert a wide AC input (176V to 284V) into a regulated 3.3V DC output at 1.06A. It features secondary-side synchronous rectification using the MAX17606 MOSFET driver and a customized Wurth Elektronik transformer. The system operates at a 125kHz switching frequency with a peak efficiency of 82%. Key features include programmable frequency dithering for low EMI, soft-start, input overvoltage protection, and hiccup-mode overcurrent protection.
