CN-0345: Low Power, Multichannel Data Acquisition System with PGIA
18-bit, 1 MSPS multichannel data acquisition system using AD7982 ADC and AD8251 PGIA for industrial-level single-ended and differential signals.
Overview
This circuit note describes a high-performance, low-power multichannel data acquisition system optimized for industrial signal levels. The design integrates an ADG1207 8-channel multiplexer, an AD8251 programmable gain instrumentation amplifier (PGIA), and an AD8475 precision differential amplifier driving an AD7982 18-bit, 1 MSPS PulSAR ADC. The system supports both single-ended and differential inputs with selectable gains of 0.4, 0.8, 1.6, and 3.2. It maintains 18-bit accuracy at channel switching rates up to 750 kHz and consumes 240 mW at maximum throughput.
Use Cases
- Industrial automation and process control
- Multichannel sensor monitoring
- High-precision instrumentation
- Automated test equipment
- Data logging systems
