Overview

This application note (AN-782) explains techniques for monitoring voltage rails that exceed the native input ranges of the Analog Devices ADM1062–ADM1069 Super Sequencer family. While these devices feature dedicated pins for monitoring—VH (up to 14.4V), VP (up to 6V), and VX (up to 1.375V)—higher voltages can be monitored by implementing external resistor dividers to scale the supply down to acceptable detection levels. The document details the configuration of internal programmable comparators for undervoltage (UV) and overvoltage (OV) detection, the use of the internal 12-bit ADC for voltage readback via SMBus, and the impact of resistor tolerance on monitoring accuracy.

Use Cases

  • Monitoring voltage rails higher than 14.4V in power supply systems.
  • Scaling 3.3V or 5V rails for monitoring on VX logic/monitor pins.
  • Implementing multi-rail power sequencing and fault detection for high-voltage inputs.
  • Real-time voltage telemetry and fault reporting via SMBus in industrial or telecommunications equipment.
