Overview

This design workbook details the P2020DS development board, a platform designed for evaluating the dual-core Freescale P2020 Power Architecture processor. The board follows the ATX form-factor and supports dual e500v2 cores operating at up to 1.2GHz. Key architectural features include a DDR3 memory controller supporting up to 4GB, triple-speed Ethernet via Vitesse VSC8244 PHYs, and a high-speed SERDES interface for PCI Express, SGMII, and Serial RapidIO. The design incorporates an NVidia M1575 South Bridge for SATA, PATA, and AC97 audio support. Power management is implemented through ZilkerLabs and Texas Instruments regulators, while system logic and reset sequencing are managed by an Actel FPGA.
