3.3 kW High-Frequency and High-Density PSU for Server and Datacenter Applications
Application note for a 3.3 kW PSU (REF_3K3W_HFHD_PSU) with 98 W/inch³ power density, utilizing interleaved totem-pole PFC and GaN-based LLC stages for server applications.
Overview
This document details the design and performance of the REF_3K3W_HFHD_PSU, a 3.3 kW power supply unit optimized for server and datacenter environments. The system architecture includes an interleaved bridgeless totem-pole PFC stage and a high-frequency GaN half-bridge LLC converter with synchronous rectification. It features Infineon CoolSiC, CoolGaN, and CoolMOS power transistors, alongside EiceDRIVER gate drivers and XMC4200 microcontrollers. The design achieves a peak efficiency of 97.4% and a power density of 98 W/inch³. Key features include an innovative planar magnetic construction and a dedicated baby-boost converter stage designed to meet hold-up time specifications while reducing overall bulk capacitance.
Use Cases
- Server and datacenter power supply units
- High-efficiency AC-DC power conversion
